WhatsApp is a private or group messaging app which is made only for smart phones. A user creates an account using their name and phone number and then they can send free messages (including images and short videos) to friends all around the world.
WhatsApp provides an optional encryption service - meaning users can hide their messages from law enforcement authorities. This can make the app less safe for children.
You have to be at least 16 years of age to have a WhatsApp account.
