This 12 month project is a joint initiative of HAAG (Housing for Aged Action Group) and the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria. It is funded by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. The key aim of the project is to prevent homelessness amongst older people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background. A key initiative of the project is to have education sessions delivered by bi-lingual educators. The aim of the sessions is to increase awareness of Home at Last services, a free information, advice and referral service of Housing for the Aged Action Group, and improve the ability for older people from CALD backgrounds to navigate the housing/homelessness system.
The education sessions are delivered to four language groups:
• Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese)
• Arabic Speaking and other
• South Asian (Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu)
• South Slavic (Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian)
The Australian Multicultural Foundation is assisting with the evaluation of the education sessions.
