The Honourable James (Jim) Short joins the AMF Board

The Australian Multicultural Foundation is delighted to announce that the Hon. James (Jim) Short has joined its Board of Directors. 

Jim has had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors.

His early career was with the Federal Treasury, and included postings as Chief of  Staff  to the Treasurer and Senior Treasury Representative to the UK and Europe (based in London).
He later entered the Federal Parliament, serving first in the House of Representatives and subsequently in the Senate. Positions held during his parliamentary career included Assistant Treasurer, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate,  Shadow Minister for Immigration and Shadow Minister for Finance.

After retiring from Parliament he served for three years as Australian Director on the Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. On returning to Australia he undertook  various roles including Australia’s Special Envoy for Cyprus; President and Executive Director of the Victorian Division of the Australia China Business Council;  Chairman of the economic consultancy ACIL Tasman; Board Member of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne and Co-Chair of its Alumni Council; and Council Member and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (Vic).
