This photographic exhibition stemmed from the Bridging the Gap project, an initiative of the Australian Multicultural Foundation, and is proudly supported by the Australian Government’s National Action Plan funding program, for more information please visit www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia. The project addressed intergenerational issues and barriers between elders and young men in the Muslim community, seeking to reduce marginalisation by increasing communication and understanding, and empowering young men to become leaders within their community, and increasing their capacity to represent and be involved in the wider community.

The project culminated with a forum in Shepparton, where groups from Dandenong, Flemington and Shepparton gathered to communally discuss the issues identified in focus groups. The group proposed the idea of a photographic exhibition, where the youths and elders together took photographs which communicate the messages they want to convey around trust, developing relationships, engaging with family, community and wider society as well as achieving goals and leadership positions.
