MEDIA RELEASE
The Australian Multicultural Foundation, in partnership with the Carla Zampatti Foundation has announced the official winner of its third Australian Multicultural Foundation Carla Zampatti Scholarship for Young Women – an annual, national initiative investing in the aspirations and talents of young women between 18-29 years old from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
The Scholarship was launched in 2022 to celebrate the legacy of renowned Australian fashion designer and champion for multiculturalism, Carla Zampatti.
Carla lived and recognised the unique conditions and barriers that women, particularly from migrant and refugee backgrounds, navigate towards full and equitable economic, social and cultural participation.
Since its inception, the program has invested in four young female founders to scale their businesses across industries such as fashion, beauty, community development and environmental sustainability.
Yuliya Lozovyk, 24 from Sydney, is the fifth female founder to be awarded the annual $10,000 prize.
Yuliya is the founder of her eponymous brand, ‘By Yuliya Fragrances’ —a fragrance house dedicated to empowering women by celebrating individuality, confidence, and self-expression.
Born in Odessa, Ukraine and raised in Australia, Yuliya’s early experiences navigating the challenges of migration fostered a deep resilience and adaptability—qualities that have shaped her ambition to forge her own path as an independent, self-made businesswoman and brand founder.
Yuliya was not a common name when growing up in Sydney. It signaled a link to her Ukrainian Russian heritage but also became a marker of difference as she navigated a sense of belonging following her migration journey across three continents.
Through sharing her journey online, she has built a loyal community inspired not only by her mission to make luxury fragrance more accessible but a brand that is determined to embrace individuality.
With the support of the Scholarship, Yuliya plans to expand her fragrance offerings with innovative, Australian-made personal care products such as fragrance balms that deliver a sense of everyday luxury at an accessible price point without compromise.
Yuliya has described receiving the Scholarship as a ‘full circle’ moment; working as Carla Zampatti’s personal assistant for her final years:
“Carla’s leadership, vision, and dedication to empowering women had a profound impact on me. She embodied the powerful woman I aspired to become. Through this brand, I aim to carry on her legacy by contributing to a more diverse and empowered Australia.”
Alexander Schuman, Carla Zampatti’s son and CEO of Carla Zampatti Pty Ltd, said:
“We are incredibly proud to see Yuliya awarded the Carla Zampatti Scholarship. Her entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and resilience embody the very essence of what this Scholarship was created to celebrate. Yuliya was a valued member of our team and worked with Mum in her final years. To witness her now forging her own path is a full-circle moment that deeply honours Carla’s legacy. Yuliya’s story reminds us that diversity, courage and individuality are powerful forces for change—and we look forward to seeing her continued success.”
Dr Bulent Hass Dellal AO, Chair of the Australian Multicultural Foundation, said:
“Through this Scholarship, we are capitalising on and celebrating the untapped innovation of young women from diverse backgrounds across Australia, casting a spotlight on their skills, creativity, and dedication. Our finalist reflects this, and we are excited to help her in pursuing her unique and timely contributions to her business.”
Yuliya was announced as the 2024 Scholarship recipient on Wednesday 16 April hosted by Carla Zampatti at the Carla Zampatti Salon in Sydney.
