The Northern CSG is a community development program auspiced by the Australian Multicultural Foundation and delivered in partnership with culturally diverse communities in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. The community-led program is funded by the Victorian Government and aims to provide young people and the broader community, with the support and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential and develop a sense of belonging in Australia.
The Northern CSG has been designed around the following program objectives, that reflect community needs. They have been developed through a community-led co-design process.
1. Employment, education and training. To support young Muslim Australians in the northern of suburbs of Melbourne to achieve education and career aspirations.
2. Culturally and religiously appropriate support services. To improve accessibility of culturally appropriate support services for Muslim Australians in northern suburbs of Melbourne.
3. Community resilience and religious identity. To empower the Muslim Australian community in the northern suburbs of Melbourne to overcome religious intolerance and support young people who may be at risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour, including violent extremism.
4.Social participation. To promote community cohesion by improving access to and availability of, sport, recreation and leisure activities to Muslim Australians in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
